Breakfast Announcer Loses Compensation Case…

January 28th, 2009

A breakfast radio announcer, who claimed he was unfairly dismissed from his job after a public row with his manager, has lost his case to return to the job and for compensation for his subsequent dismissal.

John Dryden, former breakfast announcer at Radio Forestland, Tokoroa, reportedly had a bust up with manager Jennifer Shattock, before being sacked from his job on 2nd November last year. Mr Dryden claimed his dismissal was unjust and sought reinstatement to his position, reimbursement of lost earnings and compensation. The Employment Relations Authority, however, found that his behaviour could have been “manifestly injurious to the interests of the employer”. It found Mr Dryden’s conduct toward his manager was disrespectful and inappropriate in a public forum and that it could have brought The Radio Network into disrepute.

‘Recession’ Barely Dents 2008 Television Advertising Revenue Figures…

January 28th, 2009

Total television revenue for 2008 has been recorded at $647.2 million, down slightly from 2007’s $654.4 million.  The 1.1% drop of $7.2 million was to be expected given the world’s current economic woes.

The first half of 2008 showed a growth trend of 3.1%, but the second half saw a shrinkage of $16.2 million, or 4.4%, as advertisers responded to the world economic situation.

Figures have shown that more people are watching television than ever before, making television the most effective means of reaching and influencing consumers.

Revenue figures are from returns prepared by TVNZ, MediaWorks TV and SKY Network Television (including Prime).
